Document Analysis checks the authenticity and validity of a physical identity document by analysing an uploaded image of it. Rather than querying a government database with an ID number, you upload a photo of the actual document, a national ID card, a passport, a driver’s licence, or similar, and Dojah’s analysis engine examines it for signs of tampering, forgery, expiry, and data consistency. This is particularly useful when verifying customers who provide physical documents, verifying identities from countries where database lookups are not available, or adding a document layer on top of an existing government data lookup for stronger KYC confidence. Document Analysis works across multiple countries and document types, making it one of the most flexible verification methods on the platform.Documentation Index

Running a Document Analysis
- Go to ‘Verify’ > ‘Individual’, click ’+ New Lookup’, and select ‘Document Analysis’ as the ‘Verification Type’.
- App Name - Select the application this verification should be logged under.
- Link to an existing customer, If this person already has a profile in your Customers section, link the analysis to their existing record. Leave blank to create a new customer profile automatically.
- Unlike Government Data Lookups, Document Analysis does not require you to select a country or enter an ID number. Instead, you upload images of the document directly.
- FRONT - Upload a clear photo or scan of the front of the identity document. This is required. Drag and drop the file into the upload area or use ‘Click here to select’ to browse your device. Once uploaded, the file name and size will be confirmed with a green tick, indicating it has been received successfully.
- BACK (Optional) - Upload a photo or scan of the back of the document if available. Providing the back of the document gives the analysis engine more data to work with and can improve the accuracy and completeness of the result. While optional, it is recommended for documents that carry information on both sides, such as national ID cards.
- Once your files are attached, click Upload to submit. The analysis runs automatically, and the result is returned promptly.
Image quality guidelines
The accuracy of Document Analysis depends directly on the quality of the images uploaded. Poor quality images lead to incomplete or inaccurate results. Follow these guidelines when capturing or collecting document images:- Photograph the document on a flat, plain, dark background with no overlapping objects
- Ensure all four corners of the document are visible within the frame
- Avoid glare, shadows, or reflections across the document surface, particularly over the photo or text fields
- Capture the image in good lighting; natural daylight or a well-lit indoor environment works best
- Ensure the text on the document is sharp and legible; blurry images will cause text extraction to fail
- Do not crop, rotate, or digitally alter the image before uploading
- Accepted file formats are JPG and PNG
